"Artfully Seasoned" Cookbook now Available ....
Quite some time in the making, the Minot Area Council of the Arts' new cookbook, "Soups for all Seasons" is the brainchild of Julianne Wallin. Wallin is the remaining charter member still on the board of MACA. Starting with her own favorites, and adding recipes from friends and other MACA members, the cookbook has grown to include about 60 recipes. The recipes range from summer chilled soups to deep winter soups, like sauerkraut goulash. The most exotic is garlic soup, "Not for the faint of heart," said Wallin. But the book includes standards such as knoephla and baked potato soup. The original artwork for the inside cover was produced by Lisa Lathrop, former coordinator of the MACA Arts in the Schools program, with cartoons throughout by Tina Hjelmstad, each of which relates to the facing page's recipe. Other contributors and recipe testers include Terri Aldrich, Jan Brooks, Randi Dockter, Rachel Machesky, Lindsey Miller, Elizabeth Eckert, Lathrop, Hjelmstad and Wallin. "There are little anecdotes throughout about where and how I found the recipe or use it. I wrote all of those, and Elizabeth edited it," said Wallin. "The girls were so excited to put this together, there is talk of another, so we've named the project 'Artfully Seasoned,' hoping the next might be hors d'oeuvres and so on." The volume costs $20, and all proceeds go to MACA for its many community works, such as the recently ended Arts in the Parks and the Arts in the Schools. It is available at the MACA office (1809 South Broadway Ste J. ) & by calling 852-2787, and is expected to be in some area stores shortly.
