Mission and History
Our mission is to support and advance the full range of arts for all ages and abilities.
The Minot Area Council of the Arts (MACA) has provided services to Minot ND artists, arts organizations, and the community since its inception in 1973. Organizational membership includes nearly every arts and cultural organization within Minot and extends to organizations in Stanley, Kenmare, Bottineau, and Velva. Individual members include any financial contributor of $10 or more. Truly, every resident of Minot and its surrounding area benefits from the work of MACA.
The summer concert series “Arts in the Parks” provides at least 25 free concerts in the parks each season. The Integrity Jazz Festival annually presents world class live jazz performances. All of these serve to enhance the vibrant quality of life in the region. These events make the Minot area an attractive place to locate business offices and create a place that is an appealing location for employees. The myndarts.com site provides information to the community and promotion and marketing for members. Our capably staffed office provides a convenient location for member ticket sales.
The arts education program “Artists in the Schools” provides much needed resources for area teachers, schools and students. Due to budget constraints, local schools are without the resources to hire art teachers for the elementary grades. Administrators and educators find the “Arts in the Schools” artist sessions to be of great value within the school system. Since 2003 MACA has been at the forefront of the Minot Artspace project. They initiated the original feasibility study that culminated in the first new construction in downtown Minot in 30 years! The facility is now home to nearly thirty artists and three arts centric organizations including the Heart of the Turtle, Native American gallery, the Children’s Music Academy and the MACA office.
